Oftentimes in my architectural work I’ll need to treat one element differently than the rest — shadows lightened, white walls desaturated, that kind of thing.  These adjustments reside in their own layer within an image file so transparency can be reduced or portions ‘erased’.  If your eyes are glazing over, no worries — it’s a photoshop thing and more technical than interesting.

At some point (probably late at night) it occurred to me these layers looked pretty cool on their own, disembodied against an empty background.  So I began collecting notable examples.  There’s a nice kind of Gestalt going on, your mind completing parts that are missing.
