A Heads Up!

I am in the process of migrating both the MailChimp monthly I send out and this Blog to my Substack page: An Architect in Remission (formerly called A Self-Righteous Rant).

This month’s mailing will be sent as usual, and posted here in my blog, and in a Substack post — just to get my mind around the platforms and to shake out some likely glitches.  Apologies for the confusion!

If you’d like to continue receiving my monthly propaganda — and I hope you do! — have a look and subscribe HERE.

Rudy VanderLans

I gathered up some old books to sell at Half-Price Books in order to open up some shelf space, and stumbled across this gem in the photography section!   Such a nice presentation of wonderful photos, in a style that I really admire.

There were 2 more copies, might still be…

KCAC Annual Auction

It’s that time of year for the Kansas City Artists Coalition Annual Auction.

I’ll be donating two photos from my Northtown in 3D series.  And I gotta mention for you savvy collectors: these are not just ‘limited edition’ photos, but are one-time-only prints.  I’ve reworked and expanded the series, making them all a little bit larger than the first pass, to better align with the printer I’m using currently.  So these are essentially ‘artist’s proofs’...

“...images of men flanked by women as a result of deliberate intent, natural instinct, or pure coincidence.”

The title of this post is pilfered from a post made by PhMuseum in the newsletter they sent out this morning.  The photo is one that I took a couple nights ago at a KU basketball game.

I saw the post for Man, by Erik Kessels and Karel De Mulder and was prepared to be outraged by yet another opaque and overwrought art world self-indulgence, but then I had a look at the photos.  Happily, I could shake off my prejudiced initial reaction and discover with an open mind this wonderful book by photographers who have astutely recognized and presented an obscure human phenomena.

My selfie-with-women isn’t a perfect example of such a ‘flanking’ but it’s awfully close.

Good way to start a year, huh?
