Lewis Ableidinger
This is a third post directly related to my discovery of Subjectively Objective!
Lewis’s photos capture that gorgeous breathing spacious quality I’ve been studying all week. Go have a look at his work HERE.
It’s wonderful to see his interpretation of the same landscapes as my own Grain collection draws from, though from an entirely different perspective—his work catches some of the same structures as mine, but with an editorial approach that places them in context with story intact. Wonderful stuff.

Spacious
I set out to some familiar neighborhoods today—camera-in-hand—to try and capture the spaciousness I’m seeing in other photographers’ work (see previous post). With mixed results. My eye tends to gravitate back to the formalism I’ve been at for some years now. Probably not a bad thing, just a thing. This one is sort of spacious-ish I think. I’ll keep at it...
In the meanwhile, I’ve added those gravitations to my Incidental and West Bottoms collections where they belong. Scroll to the bottom.

Subjectively Objective
A wonderful resource for photography, a publisher and gallery based near Detroit. They refreshingly feature more than just photos of people.
Go have a look.

Too Cold Out
So I’m sitting here picking at photos I really should leave alone. Like this one—just a matter of cropping. A little closer, a little cleaner.

Zimoun
I discovered another favorite sculptor today and added a link to his web-site in my ‘Lists’ page—have a look HERE.
This is wonderful powerful stuff—you’ll want to spend quality time.
Mark Mothersbaugh
I didn’t ask his permission before grabbing this photo from the interweb, so I hope he doesn’t mind. I’m only a spud boy.
Click HERE for his Orchestrions page. And then surf recklessly.

A Declaration
In this Black History Month we’ve decided to abandon social/political neutrality and go public with an unequivocal statement. Martin Luther King, jr. said; “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” In that spirit, Aaron Dougherty Photography:
1) Believes in and supports diversity, equity, and inclusion.
2) Strives to be as woke* as an all-white, all-male organization can be.**
3) Believes black lives matter. It is sad that anyone should feel threatened by such a simple truth.
4) Is anti-fascist, and therefore: Antifa (which is short for anti-fascist).
And if you’re not already outraged, you might be interested in my extended rant: Open Letter to White People.
* “Woke” 1 a: aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice).

Airshow
I am revisiting some of the moldering back rooms of my archives and have discovered an early pursuit of what the kids are currently calling street photography. This is a genre I find especially compelling; and looking back at these has got me thinking I need to get back to it. It’s an entirely different approach to seeing than my architectural and the bulk of my relatively static uncommissioned work—tripod-mounted and perspective-corrected. You're flying without a safety net, so to speak. Kinda scary and exhilarating at once.
I’m sure I’ve mentioned these two, but if you appreciate street photography you gotta see the work of Joanna Mrowka and Didier Vanderperre. Fantastic stuff, both.
